The Hope Center at Pullen — a faith community of hospitality, affirmation and justice — strives to remove barriers to opportunity through personal and community partnerships.
Bridge Tender Annual Fund 2010
The Hope Center at Pullen exists to accelerate the rate of change for some of Raleigh's most vulnerable people: chronically homeless adults and others living at or near poverty. Service to and advocacy for individuals seeking to overcome the barrier of poverty can be a transformative experience.
Tom, a volunteer and donor, reflected on his involvement:
My Job Readiness partners have taught me in a visceral way what I knew intellectually — that it can be a short step from being in control of your life to being out of control. I have come to really admire them for their willingness to engage their circumstances, search out their own inner resources, and to continue to be hopeful.
Here are just a few of the reasons to get involved:

Bridge tenders
Bridge tenders - the title given to our varied supporters - help replace barriers with bridges of hope. They see quickly how an individual's outlook on life can improve once welcomed into our community of hospitality, affirmation and justice. By joining the Bridge Tender Annual Fund you'll help to insure that we may each live a fulfilling life grounded in self-worth and hope.
Consider these bridge tender roles for volunteers and donors:
- Fan
- Being a fan means being an active volunteer. Select from a variety of volunteer opportunities and develop new skills while getting to know The Hope Center participants. Any charitable gift would be welcome to demonstrate widespread fan support.
- Community Partner
- Grow the alliance. Declare you share common goals to empower and lift friends in need out of difficulties and we'll share ideas, resources and advocacy efforts as partners.
- Ambassador
- Ambassadors recruit volunteers. After training, you'll join our Speakers Bureau. We'll arrange for you to attend local events to share Hope Center stories. A $50 gift would be welcome to show extensive ambassador support.
- Conductor
- Conductors are at the helm of operations. Use your business and personal skills — fiscal management, event planning, networking and more — in service on a committee. A $50 gift would be welcome to demonstrate widespread conductor support.
- Patron
- Patrons assure critical resources for programs.
We'll give you a tour of The Hope Center,
answering your questions about day-to-day operations and programs.
You'll receive the devotional How Can I Keep from Singing.
Individuals and organizations can provide essential support at three levels:
Upholding Patron: $300 Sustaining Patron: $800 Leadership Patron: $1,500 - Champion
- Channel your energy for a fundraiser. Anything goes, from a bowl-a-rama to wrapping gifts at the holidays. Or, organize a service project to gather materials for program participants. Involve your civic group, faith group, youth club, friends and neighbors. We'll honor you at the event.
- Sponsor
- Direct your gift to a pet project. We have program activities, events and purchases that can significantly benefit program participants. Choose what suits you. Individuals and organizations provide essential support underwriting a project 100% or partially.
