The Hope Center at Pullen — a faith community of hospitality, affirmation and justice — strives to remove barriers to opportunity through personal and community partnerships.
Three Ways You and Colleagues Can Get Involved
Our volunteers befriend and guide adults and youth alike who seek self-confidence and stability. Our most prominent volunteer roles are mentoring and tutoring. However, there are many additional activities—from planning programs, to fundraising, to doing service projects—that help create our community of hospitality, affirmation and justice.
We invite you to share your professional and social skills and get involved as soon as you can. And, when you're not volunteering, think of yourself as an ambassador of The Hope Center and recruit more volunteers. For example, here are three ways your employer or civic club can support The Hope Center at Pullen:
One – Adopt a program
We especially need volunteers for partial and full shifts Tuesdays & Thursdays 1:30 - 5:00 who will assist job seekers using our JobLink support services. This is a great project for club members.
Two – Provide community affairs funding
IBM recently gave three desktops, three laptops and a $5,000 unrestricted cash gift through a grant award because someone shared the good works of The Hope Center at Pullen with a key employee of IBM. When you tell friends—or your company's community affairs staff—about the nonprofit you have brought to fruition, your excitement may compel critical support. Companies of all sizes set aside funding for charities that their employees embrace. Just $36 will purchase a 31-Day unlimited rides CAT bus pass for a Job Readiness partner.
Three – Host a lunch-and-learn
A Hope Center Speakers Bureau member can offer a compelling overview of our one-on-one mentoring programs that are creating personal success and economic security for neighbors in need. Come to The Hope Center or invite us to your conference room. Sharing our stories with more people with resources to support our programs means we offer hospitality and action to some of Raleigh's most vulnerable persons.
Drop a note to volunteer@hopecenteratpullen.org to let us know how you wish to get involved and tell others about us. Thanks!
Service Projects for All Ages
Service projects are great team-building activities. They require just a little money for supplies and some advance planning, but become inspiration and support to adults and youth in the programs.
You, your family, your friends or your civic group can:
- Gather items and assemble backdoor lunches
The kits of Ziploc bags (not store brand; they don't seal well) should include one pack of six crackers, a can of Vienna sausages and drink box.
- Gather items and assemble personal hygiene packs
The kits of Ziploc bags (not store brand; they don't seal well) should include hotel-sizes of deodorant, lotion, shampoo & conditioner, shaving cream, soap and toothpaste. Adding a comb, disposable shavers, a toothbrush, or a washcloth is helpful, too.
- Write notes of encouragement for job seekers
- Plan a fundraising activity such as an aluminum can collection drive, a car wash or bake sale.
- Donate proceeds from a special event you host such as a Pampered Chef party, a benefit concert or a mini-golf tournament.
